Columbia Turns Portland’s PDX Airport Carpet Into a Fleece Jacket

Portland’s famous airport carpet is making the jump from terminal floors to outerwear, with Columbia Sportswear turning the recognizable PDX pattern into a new version of its Helvetia™ Fleece.

For anyone familiar with Portland International Airport, the teal carpet is hard to miss. Its geometric pattern has become an unlikely piece of local culture over the years, inspiring everything from souvenirs to social posts. Columbia, another brand deeply tied to Portland, is now putting its own spin on the hometown reference.

The plush Helvetia™ fleece recreates the carpet’s teal base alongside its navy, purple, pink, orange, and red geometric details. The pattern runs throughout the pullover, while navy and purple accents appear around the collar, snap placket, cuffs, and pockets.

Rather than loosely referencing the airport, Columbia goes straight to the source. Campaign imagery even photographs the fleece inside PDX, pairing the garment against the same carpet that inspired it.

Early access began October 14 for Columbia Greater Rewards members. The fleece is also available at the Columbia Portland Flagship Store beginning at 10 a.m. PT: 911 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205

For Columbia, it’s about as Portland-specific as a fleece can get, bringing together one of the city’s best-known brands with one of its strangest — and most beloved — design landmarks.

For more outdoor apparel, Nike ACG recently release their Lava Flow Ultralight jackets.
