Fresh off of launching a t-shirt in celebration of 30 years since Nas dropped It Was Written, Denim Tears has unveiled its Fall/Winter 2026 Collection. As with most seasonal ranges from the brand, the recent capsule has a central, unapologetically-Black muse that helps founder and creative director Tremaine Emory platform a larger narrative. This time around, the collection honors the late André Leon Talley and captures his timeless stance on style.

According to Denim Tears, its Fall/Winter 2026 offerings "will be released across five drops throughout the season, beginning [Aug. 14]." The collection's lookbook consists of at least 20 different outfits—featuring everything from winter-ready puffer jackets to a blue striped towel inspired by André Leon Talley's iconic use of oversized mink shawls. In fact, beanies, quarter-zip sweatshirts, track pants, caps, stadium jackets, and handful of other designs bear the Washington, D.C.-native's name, leaving no doubt about what inspired Denim Tears' cold weather-ready lineup.

"I'm about, what I consider style and not fashion," Talley once said. "Fashion is not something that stays with you, style does."

Emory's ongoing mission to tell oft-forgotten stories of the African Diaspora through his African American Sportswear label has landed him at a carefully-considered, co-signed project commemorating the larger-than-life persona of and trailblazing legacy of André Leon Talley. But Emory has not acted alone in his efforts—he's tapped sensical collaborators for the occasion, including Billionaire Boys Club and Stüssy.

Models included in campaign visuals for the collection span a variety of ages and professions. Figures like fashion designer Andre Walker and fashion writer Ashantéa Austin feature in the lookbook, but also speak to the legacy of André Leon Talley.

Everything from clothing and accessories designs to select talent has been thoroughly-curated in a way that's particular to Denim Tears and that the late Vogue editor-at-large surely would've approved.

Thematic collections aren't new nor uncommon in the realm of street style, but Denim Tears has repeatedly showcased an unrivaled understanding of storytelling through culturally-rich product.

In February, Emory's "LIBERTAS" Collection brought attention to a widely-forgotten part of Black history in the U.S. and shone the light on the work of Dr. Joy DeGruy, author of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing. The inspiration behind Denim Tears' seasonal drop made for a compelling narrative, but its inclusion of clever flips on certain pieces with cachet amongst inner city Black communities (i.e. Libertas Polo à la Ralph Lauren) ensures cool product means and stands for something. Too many "streetwear" brands don't go beyond an aesthetic coolness.

Emory and Denim Tears strives to operate differently, and they've consistently proven themselves.

Initial public feedback to the André Leon Talley-inspired range has been overwhelmingly positive. One Instagram user left the following comment on a lookbook post: "this is storytelling through clothes!"

The André Leon Talley Estate shared the following about the collection: "We are proud to unveil the first official apparel collaboration from the André Leon Talley Estate. Created in partnership with [Tremaine Emory and Denim Tears], the Fall/Winter 2026 collection celebrates André’s enduring legacy, drawing inspiration from a defining era of his unmistakable style and his lifelong commitment to championing Black designers and the richness of the African diaspora."

The Estate continued: "More than a collection, this is a tribute to André’s vision, influence, and the cultural legacy he leaves behind."

Whether intentionally or not, Denim Tears has already been leaving a cultural legacy behind, too.

As Black culture continues to be a commodity across the globe, with its value disproportionately extracted by non-Black people, Emory's proposal is not only refreshing, but much needed.

There's no telling where Denim Tears goes from here, but what's already been determined is that what the label has been able to do since 2019 is ever important to the African Diaspora.
