Gap is heading downtown for its latest collaboration, partnering with New York institution Los Tacos No. 1 on a collection rooted in taco culture, restaurant workwear, and the character of the city.
Founded by a group of friends from Tijuana and California, Los Tacos No. 1 began with the goal of bringing authentic Tijuana-style street tacos to New York. The restaurant has since grown into one of the city’s most recognizable food destinations, with its distinctive graphics and familiar uniforms now helping shape the new Gap collection.
Classic Gap pieces, including T-shirts and logo hoodies, are updated with artwork by Steve Powers, the artist behind many of the graphics seen throughout Los Tacos No. 1. Designs reference the restaurant’s visual identity and humor, including the familiar phrase, “No Ticket, No Taco.”
The range also draws directly from what restaurant teams wear on the job. Cargo shorts, pocket T-shirts, and a collaborative chef apron bring a practical workwear angle to the collection, while accessories include a diner-style cap inspired by staff uniforms and a reusable tote modeled after the taquería’s takeout bags.
To mark the launch, select Los Tacos No. 1 locations will outfit staff in pieces from the collaboration. Gap and the restaurant will also host a neighborhood event at the Union Square location on July 23.
The Gap x Los Tacos No. 1 collection releases July 24 through Gap.com and five Gap stores across New York City, including Times Square, Flatiron, Lincoln Square, 42nd and 3rd, and 85th and 3rd. Prices range from $28 to $118.
