Michael Jordan’s love letter to basketball is getting a fitting footwear tribute with the upcoming Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter,” a new retro release tied to one of the most personal closing chapters of his playing career.
The pair is said to draw from Jordan’s final retirement letter, written as a farewell to the game that shaped his life, career, and legacy. That connection appears most clearly on the inner ankle flap, where the words “Much Love and Respect” are debossed into the brown leather — a direct nod to the way Jordan signed off the letter.
The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter” keeps its storytelling grounded in basketball itself. The upper pairs leather panels with dark brown suede overlays across the toe, eyestays, collar, and Swoosh, while the heel and ankle collar arrive in a pebbled brown leather finish that resembles a basketball's texture. Deep red hits on the tongue branding and outsole add a subtle championship-era feel without pushing the pair too far into nostalgia.
Jordan Brand also leans into the theme with a basketball-shaped hangtag and special packaging, both dressed in matching ball-textured detailing. The result is a pair that feels more personal than loud, using material, texture, and small written cues to tell the story rather than overloading the design with obvious references.

While Jordan Brand has revisited plenty of MJ moments over the years, the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter works because it ties back to something simple: his relationship with basketball. It is less about one game, one shot, or one trophy, and more about the thing behind all of it.
The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter” is expected to release on July 3 for $185 via Nike.com and select retailers.
