Retro mesh runners have dominated the market in recent seasons, with silhouettes like the Nike Vomero 5 and adidas Adistar Control 5 driving much of the momentum. New Balance has also leaned heavily into that movement with a steady stream of archival runners returning to shelves. But while the brand continues to tap into the mesh-heavy retro wave, it also knows when to shift gears and deliver something more elevated — as seen on the New Balance 991 "Oyster Grey."

Instead of following the expected mesh-and-suede formula, the New Balance 991 "Oyster Grey" arrives wrapped in textured croc-embossed leather across much of the upper. The finish brings a more luxurious feel to the heritage runner while still maintaining the silhouette’s familiar shape and proportions.

Soft oyster tones cover the overlays, mudguards, and quarter panels, creating a uniform palette that allows the material texture to take center stage. Matching laces and tongue details keep the build cohesive, while the tonal “N” logos at the midfoot blend neatly into the design.

Underfoot, the sneaker sits atop the model’s signature ABZORB midsole, finished in subtle grey hues that balance the otherwise monochromatic upper.

The New Balance 991 "Oyster Grey" is scheduled to release on March 19th, 2026, via New Balance and select retailers for $250.

In other footwear news, the Jumpman's Air Jordan 11 "Space Jam" is returning for Holiday 2026.
