Yesterday, May 5, was World Asthma Day 2026. Although the occasion isn't linked to footwear in any regard, creative director Daisy King of @itsnotsafeforwork fame conceptualized and developed a custom Nike Air Max 95 to change that, at least for a day.
Dubbed the "NIKE AIR MAX VENTOLINS" by the designer herself, the shoe is not an official collaboration by the Swoosh, nor has it been approved by the brand. King's work (which was brought to life with the help of Minwook Paeng) is simply an exploration in design, playfulness, and purpose. The custom Air Max design integrates a working Ventolin asthma pump into the shoe, a tool that could get the wearer out of an emergency.
The inhaler has been incorporated into "a chamber containing compressed oxygen or a filtration membrane capable of processing ambient air," as described by the designer. "A small valve would allow the wearer to draw a limited number of assisted breaths in emergency scenarios," shared King about her concept on Instagram.
It's extremely unlikely that the Swoosh ever releases a similar product on Nike.com, but, thanks to King, the world can imagine what an Air Max sneaker you can breathe air from could look like.
In other sneaker news, the "Blue Crab" New Balance 990v4 Pack is expected to launch soon.
