Despite the attention paid to other silhouette's milestone anniversaries, the Nike Air Max 1 continues to play an important role in the brand's lineup. Ahead of summer, the revolutionary design has emerged in a premium "White Snakeskin" makeover sure to win over old and new fans alike.
An offering from the Nike Sportswear team, the luxurious update features the panel layout developed by Tinker Hatfield in 1987, but reimagines it with scale-laden leather instead of the traditional suede and mesh construction. With the exception of profile swooshes, embroidered stitching on the spine, and eyelets near the top of the tongue, every element across the toe box and profiles opts for the reptilian finish.
Underfoot, the visible Air Max unit stays "traditional," delivering the same shape and size as most retros from the last 20 years. The pair abandons the Big Bubble build that was re-introduced to market in 2023.
Firm Nike.com release details haven't been disclosed by the brand as of yet, but the "White Snakeskin" Air Max 1 is expected to launch before summer ends for $150.
