Regardless of your stance on it, the #BootsOnlySummer trend has left its niche corner of the internet to seemingly inspire the world's biggest sportswear brand to participate. With Nike Sportswear's help, Nike Football recently developed and introduced Cryoshot.

Unveiled via Instagram, the new product franchise is touted as one "where history and heritage on the pitch meets the streets." In laymen's terms, Nike Cryoshot delivers some of the Swoosh's most iconic football boots with a plastic cover across its studded sole plate to allow wear off-the-pitch. A full roster of releases has yet to be shared by the brand, but Ronaldo's Mercurial from the 1998 World Cup™ and Ronaldinho's Legend Tiempo R10 from 2005 are set to kick things off.

Cryoshot's announcement comes after an intentional, meticulous revival of the Total 90 line of products. London-based collaborator Corteiz had been referencing some of Nike's football heritage in campaign material for its Air Max 95 and Air Trainer Huarache projects, but this preceded reissues of the Total 90 III indoor shoe or T90 kits from the 2000s.

The move also arrives shortly after adidas' F50 Adiframe "Shock Pink" was teased. Both options seemingly keep football heritage intact, but simply modify the tooling for a more comfortable experience on the streets.

Promo material for Cryoshot, which is revving up for a debut ahead of the 2026 World Cup, positions the silhouette in Montebelluna, Italy. The location is particularly special within the history of Nike Football, as it's the place in which the Swoosh crafted Ronaldo's original Mercurial boots in 1998. Cryoshot, then, is an ode to the past, and a celebration of the present and future, as the project ensures any boot involved is "frozen" in time.

Stay tuned for firm Nike.com release details ahead of the antcipated Summer 2026 release and official photos of the debut Cryoshot.
