"Yo soy el Michael Jordan de México," said Jorge Campos, Mexico's legendary goalkeeper-forward. His comparison to M.J. wasn't unprompted, but instead, part of a promo video for the Campos x Jorge Collection put together by Nike.

If you grew up watching international football during the late 1990s and early 2000s, or are simply a kit historian, you're likely familiar with Campos and his eye-catching, decorative on-pitch uniforms. Throughout his run in Mexico's top-flight, the U.S.'s MLS, and representing the Mexico national football team, Campos designed several of his goalkeeper kits, mixing Aztec and Mayan heritage with his love of surfing, a hobby he picked up while growing up in Mexico's coastal city of Acapulco.

"El Brody" also shares that a rhombus-wearing tennis player also informed his colorful, "in-your-face" designs, which immediately evokes images of Andre Agassi, another longtime Nike athlete, and his rebellious aesthetic.

Campos retired from professional football in the mid-2000s. Since then, diehard fans and wacky kit-enthusiasts alike have begged Nike to release the vibrant jerseys he wore throughout his career. With the 2026 World Cup returning to Mexico for the first time since 1986, it seems that the Swoosh is finally ready to meet demands.

Ahead of the North American tournament's June 11 kick off, El Brody took to his social media accounts to share a 4-minute video to present the aforementioned Campos x Jorge project. In the video, Campos talks with Nike designers about the things that informed his kits decades ago, proclaimed himself as Mexico's Michael Jordan, and touched on the elements that went into the modern expansive collection with the Swoosh—from visual identity to product design.

Numerous frames throughout the video showcase Nike branding animated with the shapes and colors seen on Campos' on-pitch looks from the past. The numbers "1" and "9" are featured heavily across graphics, nodding to the Mexican legend's jersey numbers as goalkeeper and forward, respectively (yes, he played both positions). Palm trees, surfboards, and beach elements also appear throughout design mock-ups, combining the worlds that Campos himself say truly embody him.

Fans will be happy to see the inclusion of one of Campos' most-iconic colorful jerseys as part of the impending Campos x Jorge Collection.

The 59-year-old was captured wearing a Nike-branded edition of the short-sleeve shirt in the star-studded "Rip the Script" commercial for Summer 2026. The version spotted in the collaboration's promo video sees an all-new logo developed by Campos and Nike. The logo follows in the blueprint of Jordan Brand's Jumpman logo, depicting its muse in action; similarly, the Campos by Jorge logo sees the 5-foot-6-inch player mid-jump to punch a football, a scene his countless fans remember him for more than 20 years later.

"Nunca fui alto, siempre fui grande," expressed Campos in the promo video, acknowledging that his short stature never prohibited him from showing up big on-pitch nor in life. "I always liked to fly."

Campos' game as goalkeeper earned him a reputation amongst both supporters and detractors of that of a "brickwall." If you watch any highlight reel of his, you're surely to be impressed with how someone just 1.68 meters tall could comfortably defend a full-sized, regulation football goal that's 8 feet tall and 24 feet wide (2.44 meters high and 7.32 meters wide).

As of writing, Nike hasn't disclosed release details for the inaugural Campos x Jorge Collection, nor shared whether this is a one-time capsule or a permanent range that blends Mexican football heritage with lifestyle apparel and accessories.

Days after the project was previewed, Nike México hosted an intimate Jersey By You customization program featuring elements from the unreleased Campos x Jorge line.

Given Jorge Campos' hyper-local relevance in Mexico and "Nike Fútbol" branding on various marketing materials for the collaboration, it's possible El Brody's long-overdue collaboration only releases in the Latin American country. Select markets across the U.S. with high numbers of Spanish-speaking consumers, however, could also see a limited launch of product.
