Nike Running Presents "Shanghai" Vomero Premium; Other Styles Expected

Throughout history, the Nike Running Team has put together special-edition footwear for specific races and/or cities hosting important events. With fall winding down and soon making way for winter, it seems the Swoosh is celebrating end-of-year racing in Shanghai with makeovers of its most-popular running shoes.

As of writing, a Women's Vomero Premium has surfaced with a not-so-obvious, but direct nod to China's biggest city. The ultra-plush runner is clad in a "Particle Rose/Burgundy Crush/Safety Orange" color scheme that features pixelated "AIR" branding on the profiles. The lateral wall sees a "Run, Recover, Repeat." message underneath the Air More Uptempo-reminiscent text, speaking to the habit of training necessary for successful racing. On the medial side, Nike's design team has placed Shangahi's city area code—021—and its geographic coordinates: 31.2304° N 121.4737° E.

Nike, being the official sportswear sponsor of the Shanghai Marathon, which takes place on Dec. 6, will likely release running gear that features more obvious nods to the Chinese city. Nevertheless, when taking into account the Vomero Premium's color scheme, "Run, Recover, Repeat." message, and coordinates, it seems the style is inspired by the city's hazy, early morning atmosphere—a time during which dedicated athletes can train without Shanghai's normal hustle-and-bustle.
