Where to Buy: Kentucky Wildcats' "30th Anniversary" Collection by Converse
Today, Converse Basketball might be enjoying long-overdue success with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's debut signature sneaker, the SHAI 001, but the One Star Brand isn't new to drawing attention on the hardwood.
Thirty years ago, the North American company was known for several performance hoops models. One—the CONS Blue mid-top—particularly left its mark on the game, specifically at the collegiate level, thanks to the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
Robust like most other basketball sneakers of the '90s, the Wildcats' weapon of choice stood out thanks to its large star logo on the lateral heel. Furthermore, blue denim-clad makeover worn throughout the team's 1995-96 NCAA Championship run helped differentiate the pair from the competition.

On-court, the Kentucky Wildcats were comfortably dominating opposing sides. Mid-way through its eventual championship-winning run, the squad—dubbed "The Untouchables" and made up of players like Tony Delk, Antoine Walker, and Mark Pope—suited up in denim-covered uniforms that helped the team transcend the game of basketball.
With that title's 30th anniversary celebration underway, Converse is revisiting its culturally-significant heritage with a faithful reissue of every aforementioned item—Wildcats uniforms and the CONS mid-top. Ahead of a global launch, the One Star Brand teamed up with ONENESS, the Lexington, KY-based boutique, to celebrate its local community, the legendary college squad, and Converse products.
Enjoy detailed shots of the project ahead. All styles land via Nike SNKRS on Friday, March 13. Pricing ranges between $80-$130.
