In a surprising turn of events, a first look at the Air Jordan 1 '85 'Chicago' has surfaced courtesy of artist Julian V.L. Gaines, who shared a photo on his @juworkingonprojects Instagram account. The Instagram Story has seen disappeared, but its impact remains.

Last year, rumors circulated about the potential release of this highly-anticipated retro, but those whispers were quickly dismissed by figures close to the matter. Gaines' photo, however, fueled the fire, even if just for a moment.

Representatives from Jordan Brand shared that the 'Chicago' pair posted to Instagram is simply a promotional pair gifted to select members of the extended Nike, Inc. family. No plans for a retail launch are currently in place.

Regardless, the Jordan 1 '85 'Chicago' stays true to the iconic colorway that fans have come to love, featuring a classic 'White' base, 'Varsity Red' overlays, and the beloved 'Black' profile swooshes. The same color scheme derived from #23's time with the Chicago Bulls has landed across countless footwear offering from and outside Jordan Brand since its debut in 1985.

It's anticipated that the pair eventually sees a proper release over the next five years. Given that the sneaker's 'Bred' look launched in February to coincide with Jordan Brand's 40th anniversary, the 'Chicago' look could arrive in 2030 to celebrate 45 years—a playful nod to the other number Michael Jordan wore during his professional basketball career.

Make sure to keep your eyes on our official twitter for further updates. And for more from Team Jumpman, the Air Jordan 11 is set to have a historic 2025, releasing in at least five different styles.
