Nike has been making headlines recently, with increased focus on how the sportswear giant has been performing financially over the past few years. Alongside that, the company has made several key internal moves, including Andy Caine stepping into the Chief Innovation Officer role. Today, Nike shared the following memo outlining the next phase of changes within its Global Operations team.
In a note shared with employees, the company emphasized that these updates are not a shift in direction, but rather a continuation of work already underway to simplify operations and better align with the needs of athletes and the business.
The changes will take place over the coming months and will impact team structures, work locations, and overall headcount. Nike confirmed that approximately 1,400 roles will be reduced across Global Operations, with the majority of those cuts coming from its Technology division.
Several key areas were outlined as part of the restructuring. Nike plans to streamline its Technology organization by consolidating resources and focusing efforts around two primary hubs: its Philip H. Knight Campus in Oregon and the Nike India Technology Center. The goal is to create a more focused and responsive tech structure that can better support the broader business.
The company is also making adjustments within its Air Manufacturing Innovation facilities across Beaverton, St. Louis, and Vietnam. These updates are designed to improve flexibility, refine processes, and better align staffing with shifting demand, while continuing to support product innovation and quality.
Additional changes include relocating certain Converse manufacturing and engineering roles closer to factory partners to improve collaboration, as well as integrating materials supply chain operations more directly into footwear and apparel teams to streamline decision-making from raw materials through to finished products.
Nike stated that these efforts are focused on building a more responsive and resilient organization, with an emphasis on simplifying operations and leveraging automation where it improves performance. The company also acknowledged the impact of the changes on affected employees, noting that support and communication would be provided throughout the transition.
As Nike continues to move through its “Win Now” plan, the company positioned Global Operations as a key part of strengthening its foundation and supporting future growth.
Alongside these Global Operations changes, the company continues to roll out new product, including the Nike Mind collection and the Air Milano jacket, which released today.
